How do I understand the theme of place?

I think of place as more than a physical location, it is also the areas of society that one inhabits. Over the course of my time at PLU, I have focused on the convention of the domestic sphere and how female characters, and writers, utilized the domestic sphere to challenge assumptions about the role of women. I also think of the texts themselves as a place, they are a way for readers to enter into a different world. Sometimes that world is a refuge, and sometimes that world is a method for integrating contemporary social structures. Place, to me, is a two-fold concept that exists for both readers and subjects of a text.
